Salome Maheya is a Senior Policy Officer, Energy Statistics in the African Energy Commission (AFREC).
Salome has been an energy statistics trainer of trainers for the African Energy Commission (AFREC) since 2019 and is certified in Energy Statistics by the International Energy Agency (IEA). Salome has 12 Years experience in energy data collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination.
She was a National coordinator and Energy Statistics Focal person for the National Energy Information System project for Zimbabwe. She was responsible for producing annual commodity balances and Energy Balances for the country, Energy Modelling and producing energy forecasts.
She participated in the development of a 5-year action plan (2022 – 2026) of the National Energy Information Management System leading to a clear strategy for energy data collection for Zimbabwe.
Salome produced energy statistics used to calculate GHG emissions to be added into the national GHG inventory that is in line with the IPCC Guidelines for an Enhanced Transparency Framework of the UNFCCC. She participated in the production of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for Zimbabwe before joining the Commission.
Salome has expertise in Energy Planning and Policy development and participated in the development of several Energy Policies in Zimbabwe which include: The Renewable Energy Policy (2019), The Biofuels Policy (2019), The Mitigation NDC (2015), The E- mobility Policy (under development) and The Energy Efficiency Policy (under development) among others.
Salome collaborated with ZIMSTAT leading to the incorporation of 3 energy sector questions in the 2022 National Population and Housing Census for Zimbabwe. She was a national supervisor for the 2022 National Population and Housing Census who trained and supervised more than 100 provincial supervisors and more than 1000 enumerators.
Salome managed and continuously updated a database for all power projects in the country leading to the capturing of information for all power projects in the country. Before joining AFREC she was the National Youth Desk Coordinator for the Ministry of Energy and Power Development who empowered youths by sensitizing them of the opportunities in the energy sector.
