The 2026–2031 strategy for the improvement and harmonization of energy statistics in Africa

The 2026–2031 strategy for the improvement and harmonization of energy statistics in Africa

Africa faces considerable challenges in ensuring access to clean, sustainable, and reliable energy. Accurate and comprehensive energy statistics are indispensable
to overcoming these challenges and to fostering  sustainable economic and social development. The African Energy Commission (AFREC) has established a robust foundation for enhancing energy data, in collaboration with its Member States.

This Strategy is built on that foundation and sets out a roadmap for the period 2026 to 2031.Over the past decade, significant progress has been achieved in terms of African energy statistics. However, further work is required. Recognising that African countries are at different initial stages and will evolve at varying rates, this Strategy emphasises that concerted action, and cooperation will enable all nations to achieve tangible progress. Achieving success will require commitment at every level, from ministers and senior officials to national statisticians, regulators, and end-users.
