The IEA has launched the four-year cross-agency Digital Demand-Driven Electricity Networks Initiative (3DEN), which is working to identify the policy, regulation, technology and investments needed to accelerate progress on power system modernisation and effective utilisation of distributed energy resources.

The project has been developed in the context of the 2019 Climate Action Summit, with a view to step up global action for clean energy models and to fight climate change. Under the 3DEN Initiative, the IEA will build on analysis, case studies and experiences from across the Agency and around the world to develop actionable tools and guidance and disseminate new learning. 3DEN will engage with relevant organisations, bringing together diverse stakeholders to foster dialogue and share experiences, including the International Smart Grids Action Network, the User-Centred Energy Systems , the Energy in Buildings and Communities and the Energy Efficient End-Use Equipment Technology Collaboration Programmes, the Clean Energy Ministerial and Mission Innovation.
