As part of the implementation of “Component 2: Capacity Building of African Institutions and People” under its agreement with SIDA, AFREC is developing a Strategic Framework for Cross-Border Skills Sharing in the African Energy Sector. This initiative is crucial for addressing skills gaps, fostering knowledge exchange, enabling technology transfer, and strengthening capacity building efforts across African countries and institutions. The consulting firm, African Schools of Regulation (ASR), has made significant progress in drafting the report. To ensure a comprehensive and inclusive approach, AFREC is organizing a validation workshop for the draft report, scheduled to take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from May 27-28, 2025. The workshop will bring together representatives from Member States, regional institutions, RECs, Power Pools, and Regional Centers for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency. The discussions will focus on identifying key skills gaps, exploring opportunities for collaboration, and establishing a framework for effective cross-border cooperation in the energy sector.
