Energy Efficiency Programme

African energy efficiency program is geared towards the transformation the African energy market to higher efficiency lighting and electrical appliances with a strategic integrated energy policy approach at the continental level to significantly reduce final energy demand on the continent and to provide increased electricity access, competitiveness, energy security and economic development.

To date, AFREC in partnership with United Environmental programme (UNEP), through the United for energy efficiency (U4E) conducted a pilot implementation saving assessment of the African Energy Efficiency Programme in the SADC region in 2019/2020. Results from the Assessment present a summary of potential benefits which could be attained from the implementation of Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) for lighting, appliances and equipment at a regional level.
